Clifton Hutchinson is a partner in the Dallas office of at K&L Gates where he specializes in complex litigation and scientific expert issues, and is a frequent speaker and author on expert evidence and Daubert challenges. Mr. Hutchinson has argued complex procedural issues before the United States Supreme Court and federal and state courts of appeal. Some of his accomplishments include:
- Mr. Hutchinson handles a wide variety of litigation matters, including significant intellectual property and trade secrets issues, probate and trust claims, products liability and toxic torts, among others. Mr. Hutchinson's practice has focused on matters involving complex technical and scientific issues.
- Mr. Hutchinson helped pioneer the use of gatekeeping to exclude or limit unreliable expert testimony. He was the lead defense counsel in Christophersen v. Allied Signal, and successfully argued the case before the en banc Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Christophersen established stringent expert reliability rules for federal courts in the circuit, predating the Daubert decision.
- Mr. Hutchinson is a frequent author and speaker on Daubert related issues. Most recently, he authored Expert Witnesses: Business & Economy Cases (West 2009) and was the co-editor of Scientific Evidence Review (ABA 2008).
